Maj (Ret) Charles Gordon Owen - 3 May 1929 to 16 May 2020

Maj (Ret'd) Charles Gordon Owen passed away in May 2020. Although not a current member of RUSI-VI, Gordie was a member years ago and participated in our Military Oral History interviews relating his experiences in the Korean War.  His obituary and a video follows (27 minutes to view) of his interview to Veteran's Voices of Canada (VVOC). Fascinating stories about his experiences in Korea. He was in 3 RCR in Korea, then later in 2 RCR in Canada, 1st Battalion, the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada at Work Point Barracks and finally after retirement from the Regular Force, he was the DCO of 11 Service Battalion.

Laurence Johnson relates that Gordie was a barfly, a raconteur, a gambler and larger than life!
Obituary:

It is with great sadness that the Owen family announces the passing of Gordon after a brief illness.
Gordon leaves behind his sister Patricia Anne Koonts, he was predeceased by his first wife Marilyn (Nachtrieb) and brother David Walter Owen SgtMaj USMC (ret’d).
Gordon leaves behind his children: Gail Owen, Deborah Mezger (Michael), Janet Ciurysek (Gerry), Gordon Owen (Dawn) and Aura Bell (Dean).  Grandchildren Donna Lloyd-Jones (Darren), Erica Mezger, Garrod Mezger (Veryan), Shannon Konstantino (Tony) and Gordon Owen (Shanna), Jeffrey Owen, Meagan Owen and Olivia Owen.  Gordon also leaves behind many much loved great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He served as an officer of the 3rd Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment (pioneer) while in Korea then served the remainder of his career while in 2nd Battalion RCR.

A very special thank you from the Owen, Mezger and Ciurysek families to his beloved granddaughter Donna, grandson Darren Lloyd-Jones and their children.  Their dedication to their Grandad was extraordinary to say the least and the kindness, compassion and friendship they gave him was just wonderful.  We know that Dad is missing his best bud Darren.

After retirement,  Dad travelled extensively throughout the world, Canada and the US visiting and staying in touch with as many family members and friends, as possible.
Also we want to say a special thanks to Dads nephew David Owen (Kim) for making him welcome in their home on his many trips south.
